The Right of Public Access is a unique right to roam freely in the countryside. But with the right come responsibilities – to take care of nature and wildlife and to show consideration for landowners and for other people enjoying the countryside. The Swedish EPA sums up the Right of Public Access in the phrase ‘Don’t disturb – Don’t destroy.’

While the Right of Public Access is guaranteed in Sweden’s Constitution, it is not enshrined in law and there is no statute that exactly defines its scope. On the other hand, it is hedged around by various laws that set limits to what is allowed.

It is therefore not always possible to say exactly what you may or may not do in the countryside. While the courts have the power to interpret the Right of Public Access, not many cases have actually come before a court.

Mediaeval roots

Swedes tend to regard the Right of Public Access as part of their cultural heritage, sometimes even as a national symbol. Its origins go back in part to provincial laws and customs dating from the Middle Ages.

The Right of Public Access is for everybody. (The literal meaning of the Swedish term, allemansrätten, is ‘everyman’s right’.) As the basis of our right to roam the countryside, it is important not just to individuals but also to clubs and tourism operators. Clubs and tourism operators may take advantage of the Right of Public Access in the activities they organise, even though the right as such applies only to individuals and not to groups.

Recently I saw them again on, yeah ___, the Internet. The ‘rule of 3′s to survive’, are based on a big truth and therefore I would like to share them with everybody: – RULE OF 3′S TO SURVIVE

YOU CAN SURVIVE

3 MONTHS without companionship or love
This is actually part of the first rule of 3′s. In order to continue in a prolonged survival circumstance, most people need to have a sense of purpose and belonging. Knowing that someone is there for you and caring what happens to you can help you continue doing what is necessary for survival when the days and weeks seem to drag. Strong faith will make all of the difference for these survivors.

3 WEEKS without food
Some of us will survive even longer without it, but food will become an urgent concern for survival after a couple of weeks.

3 DAYS without water
The next challenge is to find clean water. This may mean collecting rainwater or finding a water source shared by plants and animals. Avoid activity that leads to lots of sweating and heavy breathing. This causes your body to lose water more quickly. Conserve what water your body has by working at a nice steady pace. Whatever your course of action, your body will need water soon.

3 HOURS without shelter (in extreme conditions)
In extreme conditions, you can live for a couple of days without water and weeks without food, but you cannot survive without shelter. You could suffer from hypothermia at 10 C°, especially if the wind is blowing and you are wet. In warm climates, you will need shelter from the sun. Protect yourself from the elements.

3 MINUTES without air
Few people can hold their breath for 3 minutes. In circumstances where oxygen is limited, your next priority is to get to a place where you can breathe.

BUT YOU CAN ONLY SURVIVE . . .
3 SECONDS without hope

Survival depends upon your ability to be alert in all situations,
shake yourself out of the stupor of disbelief and hopelessness.

The imported wolf with Russian genes has now been moved to Värmland. As of monday, the last position her transmitter sent showed that she is now in the north west of Filipstad.

She was released north of highway 243 between Nora and Karlskoga in Kilsbergen, Örebro County. The first few days she stayed within a one mile radius, but then she began to wander. First she went over the road 243 and passed among the villages Dalkarlsberg and Dalekarlshyttan .
- We see in her motion and that she avoids urban civilisation. We are delighted, “said Fred Wilde at the County Administrative Board of Örebro. Taking into consideration the anaesthesia and all that the wolf has experienced, it is not particularly strange, “said wolf researcher Olof Liberg.

Inside the Loka Territory
She walked north east, in the direction of Grythyttan. For a while she was inside the Loka territory.
She passed Rockesholm and walked about 10 kilometres in the woods skirting the boundries around the church, The signal from her GPS-collar shows that she moves preferably at night and along the shores of lakes. Several times she has not moved and stayed for a short time at the same place, it is not impossible that she was able to hunt deer or other animals to eat, “says Fred Wilde.
The wolf has also passed Älvestorp and when the signal came at 23 o’clock on Sunday evening, she was near Persberg between Filipstad and Hällefors, in Värmland.

In an existing territory
Monday morning there was no GPS signal, probably due to poor mobile coverage. But during the day, her GPS collar announced that she is north west of Filipstad, at the height of Nordmark. In a straight line she moved about 60 kilometres from the site in Kilsbergen.
- She may be entering into two separate territories, Aamäck and Sandsjö, and may be aware that there are other wolves in the area, “said Fred Wilde.

Two empty territories
The County Board of Värmland predators officer Lars Furuholm notes that the county is affected by a total of ten wolf territories. Recently, a new regeneration found in Brattfors. There is also suspected regeneration in Glaskogen and Acksjön, but they will not be able to ensure the statistics until this winter.
- Officially, we have word of 10 wolf territories and 100 wolves. An additional wolf is no problem, but we’re not interested in having a territory embedded between the other territories. Today it is just empty between Karlstad and Arvika, and in Mangskog, where both wolf packs were killed during the licensed hunting, said Lars Furuholm.

Liberg is convinced
Within a couple of days the Environmental Protection Agency is expected to have an answer in the DNA-samples taken from the female wolf. The question is whether it is the thoroughbred Russian migrant, or a half-Russian female from the Kynn2 territory in Norway which has moved. Wolf Researchers Olof Liberg, however is convinced that it is the thoroughbred Russian wolf who is now newly arrived in Värmland.
- We have seen sisters from Kynn2 wolf and they look nothing like the wolf who was anesthetized and moved. It was really a special appearance with its very yellow colour, “says Liberg.
